The long, dark, energy-sucking tunnel called 'night shift.'
This is my LAST week of nights before I move onto days and I'm pretty thrilled about it!!!
no more 2am lunches.
no more trying to sleep during the day.
no more feeling like a zombie on my days off.
on the other hand...
no more night shift differential.
no more decent parking.
no more being the nice nurse and letting patients get as much rest as possible during my shift.
Ultimately though, days will be be good for my husband, for my health, for my social life, and for my blog. :)
Speaking of blogs, I'm very happy and excited and nervous to announce that I'm going to be teaching a blog class!
The City of Boise organizes community education courses (anything from improving your posture, to backyard beekeeping, to clock collecting. Something for everyone!) and they asked if I'd be willing to share what I know about starting a blog.
So I said yes. :)
and appropriately named my class: So You Wanna Start a Blog.
There are still some openings if you are interested or if you have any friends in Idaho, please let them know!

No more night shift... ever?! You lucky girl!
Also congrats on teaching the blog class! I wish I could take it but I live... well, way too far away. :-) I'm teaching a community knitting class as of this week and it's so fun to get paid to teach your passion!
Congrats on getting to asked to teach a class! That is really awesome!
I can't imagine how hard night shifts have been, so cheers to you and your upcoming day shifts!
Oh hurray!!! That is so exciting! I remember when Angel finally got switched to days--it really is so much better, even if the pay is less and even if he has to park so far away that he has to take the employee shuttle bus in to the hospital. He hopes he never has to do nights again, and so do I, but at least we know that if it does turn out that he has to, we'll survive!
Hurray for the blog class, too! That sounds like so much fun!
Nice! I am swing shift, but no where getting off of it! Congrats!
I loved going from nights to days. I felt so much better and had lots more energy! I still miss the shift diff though. I took a huge decrease!
Night shift doesn't sound very fun, but the better pay and parking would probably make it a little more bearable!
Oh my goodness. Let me tell you when I first left nights I felt like a BRAND new person! Seriously. I think you just learn to operate under this "I'm always tired but I'm going to suck it up because this is normal" mode. But after coming to days, I kid you not brand new person. It was phenomenal. Did I miss the shift diff, and pace, and co-workers? Yes, but it was worth it. Man, that was 4+ years ago and I still remember how good it felt. (I did have to go back to nights for a brief period at one point, and it wasn't the same leaving again for the second time...)
Enjoy!
Congratulations! Twice! Two awesome news! You rock, girl! Glad the night shift is over!
Shift differential is amazing, but eve more amazing is feeling like a human in time for the weather to be good enough to get out for evening and early morning bike rides =). Congratulations!
Soooo bittersweet! ;) I know that you will do great with your class. If I were in Idaho I would come sit in. I heart you!! :)
hooray! that is the best news. i don't know how you did straight nights. i work 3-4 nights a month and i like them because they're such a break from the busy day shift, but i definitely couldn't do straight nights. i can totally understand why your hubby is so happy! congrats!
What's night shift differential? And a 2AM lunch? That's WILD! I can't even imagine it.. Does it take a while to get used to?

PS. You gotta do updates on the class you're teaching. That's really cool!
